Ground water level of Aurangabad increase by 5 meters

Aurangabad, Oct 28:

The groundwater level in Aurangabad has increased by 5.13 meters that is the highest in Marathwada.

Survey of the groundwater is conducted in the month of September every year by the groundwater survey and development agency. This year, the water level of 875 wells in 76 tehsils of Marathwada was checked. The survey showed the ground water level has increased in all tehsils. The ground water level in Aurangabad district increased to 5.13 meters as compared to the average of the last 5 years. It has also been observed that the water level has increased by 2.11 meters this year. Due to heavy rains in Khultabad tehsil, the ground water level increased by 2.53 meters. The water level in Vaijapur has increased by 7.53 meters as compared to the average of 5 years. In Chakur tehsil of Latur district, the water level has increased to 4.03 meters this year, which is only 0.11 meters as compared to the average of the last 5 years. This is the lowest recorded water level rise. Out of 76 tehsils, 66 tehsils have received above average rainfall. Parbhani, Gangakhed, Latur, Chakur, Tuljapur, Bhum, Vashi and Ashti tehsils with 20 per cent deficit are included, said deputy director Dr M D Deshmukh.
