Hundreds of donors donate blood in mega camp

Aurangabad, July 2:

Hundreds of donors donated blood on the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and founder editor of Lokmat Jawaharlalji Darda (Babuji) at Lokmat Bhavan on Friday. The camp was inaugurated by the health minister Rajesh Tope in the morning. Later, hundreds of donors registered their names for donating blood.

Large scale blood scarcity was faced during the Corona pandemic phase. Lokmat taking the initiative to curb the blood scarcity and, due to social commitment, organised the mega blood donation camp.

Lokmat’s editor-in-chief Rajendra Darda, district collector Sunil Chavan, commissioner of police Dr Nikhil Gupta, AMC administrator Astik Kumar Pandey, ZP CEO Dr Mangesh Gondawale, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH0 dean Dr Kanan Yelikar, Shri Om Steel CEO Nitin Bharuka, Vikram Tea Processor Pvt Ltd managing director Shubham Patel and others were present during the inauguration of the camp. The camp was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by the dignitaries.

Directors of Bhaishree Ventures Pravin Somani and Makrand Deshpande, Dabur territory manager Chandrahas Hegde, division blood collection officer Dr Savita Sonawane, Zilla Vyapari Mahasangh president Jaggantha Kale, education officer Dr B B Chavan, GMCH head of the Pathology department Dr Anil Joshi and others were present. Lokmat editor Nandkishor Patil proposed a vote of thanks.

In his introductory speech, Rajendra Darda said we are slowly getting out of the Covid-19 phase, but we have not completely overcome it. Blood is needed during the surgeries. Now, all the transactions are getting back to normalcy. The traffic has increased on the roads, and so are the accidents, hence, the blood is needed in large quantities for the accident victims. There are several misconceptions about blood donation in society, especially after the Corona phase. Lokmat had created awareness among the people for last one month about the period of donation after Covid infection and vaccination. Blood donation camps were organised at various places in the state and received an overwhelming response. The public health department has immensely cooperated in this mega drive. Medical education minister Amit Deshmukh and all the medical colleges co-operated in this mega event, he said.

Lokmat, during the period of distress, has always preserved the social commitment, be it the earthquake at Khillari, floods in Paithan, starting schools for the soldiers of the Kargil War, and other natural calamities. It has always taken the initiative during crisis situations. Today, the state is facing blood scarcity. The initiatives taken by Lokmat is commendable, and I salute it, said state health minister Rajesh Tope and assured full cooperation during the camps in the division.
