India and the United States announced a major trade agreement aimed at resetting and strengthening bilateral economic ties. Under the deal, the United States has agreed to reduce tariffs on Indian goods to about 18%, down from much higher levels that had previously reached around 50%. In return, India has agreed to expand purchases of U.S. goods and ease certain trade barriers. The agreement also involves reciprocal tariff adjustments and commitments on market access. This deal is seen as a significant step in improving trade predictability, boosting Indian exports, and broadening economic cooperation between the two largest democracies.
