IWF demands justice for Sarika

Aurangabad, Dec 13:

A delegation of Indian Women''s Federation (IWF) requested the deputy commissioner of police Meena Makhwana to take up the case of beating and molestation of Sarika Kamble, a widow and destitute woman living in the cantonment area. A memorandum was also submitted on December 10 demanding to give justice to Sarika as soon as possible.

Sarika lives in the cantonment area with her two children. Her brother-in-law Anna Alhat, who had been living nearby for months, was keeping a close eye on Sarika and threatening her to leave the house. On August 7, Alhat, under the influence of alcohol, threatened and molested Sarika. Anna, his wife and son Sandeep beat up Sarika and her children. Anna threw a large stone at Sarika''s head and threatened to kill her. Sarika lodged a complaint at the Chawani police station. But 4 months after the incident, no action has been taken against the accused. Alhat, on the other hand, lodged a complaint against Sarika, prompting outrage from the IWF activists. Therefore, the federation has demanded that strict action be taken against the accused and justice be done to Sarika. District secretary Vasudha Kalyankar, district president Tara Bansode, state council member Manisha Bagul, adv Nita Shingane and Saraswati Ingole were present
