Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
“Jaltara is a decentralised and equitable model that contributes to farmers’ prosperity. It is an effective solution for assured irrigation and has now gained recognition at the national level,” said pioneer of the Jaltara model, Dr Purushottam Wayal.
He was speaking as the chief guide at the ‘Jalmanthan’ meeting organised by the Marathwada Water Council at Gram Vikas Bhavan in Cidco N-2 on Saturday.
Highlighting the model’s importance, Dr Wayal outlined four key benefits: rise in groundwater levels, improved soil moisture, prevention of soil hardening, and assistance in flood control. The session was chaired by senior geologist Jeevan Bedwal, who emphasised the need for technical geological considerations while implementing the project.
Platform for water issues
Council president Narhari Shivpure, in his introductory remarks, said the organisation is committed to securing Marathwada’s rightful share of water. He stated that the objective of ‘Jalmanthan’ is to move beyond discussions and ensure coordinated implementation among stakeholders while delivering justice to deprived sections.
During the meeting, the Gram Vikas institution announced full support for implementing the Jaltara project in Lingdari and other villages.
Vice-president Manohar Sarode, water expert Dr Jaysing Hire, prof Chandrakant Bharad and others were present. Farmers from nearby areas also attended. The vote of thanks was delivered by water researcher Ramchandra Pilde.
