Aurangabad, Jan 27:

Special trains are being run by the Nanded railway department for the transportation of agricultural commodities. Till now 25 Kisan trains have been operational, generating revenue of Rs 5.50 crore said Nanded divisional railway manager Upinder Singh on Tuesday.

He was addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the republic day. Speaking further Singh said, another 75 Kisan special trains are targeted to be started by the end of March. The Nanded railway department has received revenue of Rs 5.25 crore from the 25 Kisan trains operated till date. Singh also said that this year, the Nanded division has excelled in freight traffic by sending 12 sugar rakes from Basmat, Aurangabad and Parbhani railway stations to various places. The speed of freight trains has improved from 28 km ph last year to 45 km ph due to the special efforts of the engineering department to maintain the railway tracks, he added.
