Leopard rumour triggers panic; turns out to be a cat

A rumour of a leopard sighting near Cantonment Holy Cross Marathi School sparked panic after locals reported seeing a leopard-like animal on a compound wall. However, a prompt inspection by the forest department on Saturday confirmed it was a cat.
The team, led by range forest officer Sagar Kute along with forest guards R.T. Rathod, H.K. Gushinge, and V.Y. Jhinjade, conducted a detailed survey in the presence of school authorities, residents, and former students.
No evidence of any wild animal movement was found. Officials urged citizens to avoid rumours and remain calm. Timely verification helped restore normalcy.
