Liquor stores will close at 10 pm on New Year''s Eve
Aurangabad, Dec 25:
The state excise department has ordered that the liquor shops will close at 10 pm on new year''s eve on the backdrop of Covid-19. The department will also keep a close eye on those who hold parties without permission. State excise superintendent Sudhakar Kadam has warned that strict action will be taken against organizers. He also said that special squads have been set up to curb illegal parties as well as the illegal sale of liquor.
The number of New Year''s Eve parties in and around the city is increasing every year. Against this backdrop, the state excise department has stepped up its efforts to curb illegal parties and illegal liquor sales. Four special squads have been set up this year. In addition, there will also be a flying squad to keep a check on parties. The teams will take action against alcoholics and store owners who defy orders. Due to the high demand of alcohol during this period, spurious liquor along with illegal liquor can be smuggled. Considering this possibility, the department has kept a close watch on the district and has increased patrols. Superintendent Kadam said the police department would also be called in to inspect the suspicious vehicle. Liquor shops will be open until 10 pm on December 31, and licensed shops must comply with all regulations.
No license applications this year
To organize a New Year''s party, hotels, resorts, clubs, groups and organisations have to obtain a one-day license from the state excise department by paying a fee. However, no application has been received by the department so far this year. Sources said that the applicants should apply to the state excise department only if they have got permission from the concerned departments including the police administration.
