Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: “Even today, compared to English, the amount of digital knowledge and information available in regional languages is limited. To make Marathi a language of knowledge and livelihood, it is essential to greatly increase the volume of information available in digital form, said Laxmikant Deshmukh, veteran litterateur and chairman of the Marathi Language Advisory Committee.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day workshop on “Encyclopedic Writing in the Digital Age” being organised at the CIFART Auditorium jointly by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and Maharashtra State Encyclopedia Board on Monday.
Around 150 language scholars participated in the workshop. Vice-Chancellor Dr Vijay Fulari presided over the function.
Former Vice-Chancellor Dr Pandit Vidyasagar and Dr Rahul Deshmukh were also seated on the dais. In the afternoon session, eminent educationist and former VC D. Pandit Vidyasagar delivered a lecture on “Scientific Encyclopedic Writing.” Principal of Government College of Engineering, Dr Sanjay Dambhare, Principal Dr Ratnadeep Deshmukh, Director Prof. Sachin Deshmukh and Dr Sneha Khobragade were also present.
