The Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW), Rupali Chakankar, today settled 14 family disputes, out of 96, at a public hearing "Mahila Aayog Aaplya Daari" (Women's Commission at Your Doorstep) organised at the district collectorate.
Superiors along with officers and experts from the four panels heard a total of 152 complaints during the public hearing. Of these, 96 were related to family issues, 11 were related to social issues, 3 were about property and financial fraud, and the remaining 42 were of various other types.
While addressing the campaign Chakankar said that she intends to prioritise women's safety within the framework of the law and work through the MSCW to strengthen the family as the foundation of society.
“The initiative has been taken to render justice to women complainants in their respective districts and save their money and time. Family is the centre point of women's empowerment. Hence through counselling the disputes are settled by the commission,” underlined Chakankar.
Additional collector Dr Arvind Lokhande, MSCW member Nandini Awhade, deputy district collector Dr Suchita Shinde, police inspector Tejashree Pachpute, and law experts, police officials and officers from Women and Child Development of the four panels resolved the complaints on the spot.
MSCW chairperson also held review meetings with the heads and key officers of different departments including social welfare, education, health, labour, transport, etc. The meeting was attended by zilla parishad CEO Vikas Meena, police inspector Aarti Jadhav, assistant commissioner (social welfare) Lakichand Chavan, district women and child development officer Reshma Chimandre, district women and child development project officer Suvarna Jadhav and others.

Chakankar invited the active participation of women in increasing the girl-child birth ratio; ordered officials to create awareness to prevent child marriages and the schools and colleges have been told to display Child Helpline Number 1098 at the visible spot. ZP Bhisewadi school student was also applauded for making a short film - Good Touch Bad Touch - to sensitise school girls; and recommend opening of a redressal cell for complaints made by women in all offices and establishments. The chairperson congratulated Pink Squad and Damini Squad for making strenuous efforts. Lastly, she instructed to publicise the important numbers for women seeking help during the crisis.
