Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In an administrative meeting, the deadline to complete the new water supply scheme has been postponed for a month. Earlier, it was announced that it would be completed by March 31, however, in today’s meeting of the Divisional Commissioner, the new deadline is fixed at April 20. Meanwhile, the question remains unresolved whether the citizens will be able to get an additional quantity of water before the end of this summer.

A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner, as per the directives of the Aurangabad Bench, to assess the new water supply scheme, on Wednesday. It was attended by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) administrator G Sreekanth, Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) Manisha Palande, as well as officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the CSMC.

During the meeting, discussions were held to identify the exact obstacles in the water supply scheme. Solutions were explored, and final decisions were made. MJP had previously claimed that 200 MLD of water would be supplied to the city by March 31. However, this claim has turned out to be false. Now, MJP officials said that it would not be possible to complete various tasks in the next 26 days.

New deadline of April 30

The Divisional Commissioner and the CSMC Administrator have instructed the MJP that the work on laying the water pipeline, completing the Jack Well work at Jayakwadi Dam, and installing the pumping machinery should be completed by April 30. Discussions were also held regarding the water treatment plant on the 900mm diameter pipeline. MJP has assured of completing this work (emergency water supply scheme) as well till April 30.

It may be noted that if the new 26 MLD water treatment plant in Pharola is completed, the city will receive an additional 50 to 55 MLD of water. It is expected that this water supply will be available after May 1.

Confirmation of the newspaper’s report

A 2500mm diameter main water pipeline was laid on Paithan Road. The newspaper report highlighted that the NHAI had constructed a road over this pipeline. Following this, it was noted that traffic continued on the pipeline, and the report warned that if the pipeline were to burst, vehicles would be at risk of being propelled 100 to 150 feet into the air. To prevent traffic from obstructing the pipeline between Jayakwadi and Nakshatrwadi, it was decided to install iron barricades on one side of the road. The cost for this will initially be borne by MJP.

Details of pending works?

A 2500mm diameter water pipeline has been laid for 37 km between Jayakwadi and Nakshatrwadi, covering a total distance of 39 km. However, the following works are still pending. It includes laying 2 km of pipeline; installing air valves at various locations; setting up surge tanks at four locations; installing pumping machinery etc. The big question now is whether these works will be completed in the next 55 days.
