Nine-day training ruse ends in gold theft

A man allegedly duped five women in Misarwadi after gaining their trust through a nine-day tailoring training session and fled with nearly 2.5 tolas of gold ornaments recently evening in Galli No. 1.
Cidco police have registered a case against Mahesh Kharat. According to police, the accused circulated pamphlets on February 1 offering sewing machine training and assistance in obtaining machines under special schemes. Five women paid Rs 200 each and attended sessions from February 2 to 9 between 2 pm and 4.30 pm. On February 6, he asked them to bring photocopies of gold ornament receipts, citing documentation requirements for availing sewing machines. After the final session on February 9, he clicked their photographs and instructed them to bring original ornaments for “photo documentation.” He provided plastic bags to place the jewellery inside and allegedly fled with four bags containing gold. The stolen ornaments include 8 grams from Pragya, 4.5 grams each from Samiksha and Yashoda, 3 grams from Bhagyashree, and 2 grams from another woman. Police said the mobile number printed on the pamphlets is registered in another state. Assistant police inspector Yogesh Gaikwad is investigating the case.
