Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Dean of Government Medical College Dr Shivaji Sukre was once the secretary of MARD and had acknowledged Dr Arvind Gaikwad as his mentor, guardian minister Sanjay Shirsat said on Friday. In politics, however, people rarely admit who their mentor is, he remarked.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a human organ exhibition organised by the Central MARD Association at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He said the exhibition would benefit students as the organs they observe here would leave a lasting impression on their minds. It is often said that only 0.1 to 0.2 per cent of the brain is used, though this is not precisely known. Even the full potential of the brain cannot be utilised completely, he added.

Dean Dr Shivaji Sukre, officer on special duty at the Government Cancer Hospital Dr Arvind Gaikwad, head of the department of anatomy Dr Archana Kalyankar, Dr Kashinath Garkal, Dr Bharat Sonawane, Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Vinod Mundada and Dr Suchita Joshi were present on the occasion.

Central MARD secretary Dr Swapnil Kendre, president Dr Sachin Patil, GMCH MARD president Dr Chaitanya Dhavare, Dr Sneha Gunale, Dr Sharvani Kadre, Dr Sahil Isai and Dr Sahil Salve took efforts to organise the exhibition.

I am an admirer of GMCH

Sanjay Shirsat said he is an admirer of GMCH and not a critic. Last year, a fund of Rs 56 crore was provided for GMCH through the district planning committee, while Rs 57 crore has been made available this year. Efforts are being made to do whatever is possible for the hospital, he said.

Rs 12-crore turnkey project for maternity department

Dr Shivaji Sukre informed that the Rs 12-crore turnkey project for the labour room in the maternity department at GMCH will soon be inaugurated. He credited the guardian minister for the transformation witnessed at the hospital over the past two years.

Renowned doctors examine organs before surgery

Renowned doctors from the city visit the department of anatomy before performing complex surgeries. They examine human organs in detail, which serves as guidance during surgical procedures, said dean Dr Shivaji Sukre.

25 organs and one human specimen on display

The exhibition features 25 human organs and one human specimen. Students from classes VIII to X from 30 schools visited the exhibition on Friday. The exhibition will remain open for students on Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm.
