The Congress-affiliated student organisation National Students’ union of India(NSUI) on Wednesday organised an ‘Ulgulan’ march from Gandhi Bhavan in Shahaganj to the district collector’s office, alleging neglect of tribal students’ issues by the tribal development department. Slogans raised by students resonated across the area as the rally concluded with the submission of a memorandum.

Led by NSUI state general secretary Adv. Subhash Gavit, the organisation stated that delays in implementing schemes related to education, scholarships, hostels and other welfare benefits have adversely affected tribal students. The memorandum pointed out that several applications under the Pandit Deendayal Swayam Yojana remain pending, depriving students of benefits. NSUI demanded immediate approval of applications, direct financial aid through the DBT system, and an increase in DBT allocations. Alternatively, it sought blanket admission of eligible students in government hostels. It also alleged that some colleges are collecting additional fees from tribal students beyond scholarship provisions and demanded action. The organisation called for strict implementation of UGC regulations, improved hostel facilities, and an inquiry into aided and unaided schools. The 12 demands were forwarded through the district collector to the commissioner of the Tribal Development Department, Nashik. Dr Shadab Shaikh, district president Abhishek Shinde, Srujan Gavde, Rohit Jadhav and others were present.
