Possibility of increase in tree felling for firewood; forest department on high alert

Amid concerns of gas shortage due to the ongoing conflict in Gulf countries, the use of firewood as fuel is increasing in both urban and rural areas. In view of this, the forest department has intensified vigilance to prevent unauthorised tree felling in areas adjoining forest zones.

Officials said attempts to cut trees without permission have been reported in some forested areas. To curb such incidents, forest department staff are conducting round-the-clock patrolling. The department has also prepared to take strict punitive action against those involved in illegal tree cutting.

Along with enforcement, the department has also launched an awareness campaign in villages near forest areas. Citizens are being informed about the importance of tree conservation and the need to protect forest resources to maintain ecological balance.

Forest range officer (regional) Sagar Kute said that if anyone is found cutting trees in forest areas or transporting wood without permission, cases will be registered under the Forest Act and strict action will be taken.
