Pressure by newly elected corporators for water will not be tolerated

During the municipal election period, the city witnessed frequent disruptions in water supply, which led to considerable criticism of the municipal corporation. Even now, the water supply has not been fully stabilised, with many localities receiving water only once in eight to ten days. Trials of pipelines under the new water supply scheme are currently underway. Until the additional 200 MLD of water is received, it will not be possible to supply water to newly developed areas. Newly elected corporators should not exert pressure for water supply, and the administration will not tolerate any such pressure, warned municipal commissioner G. Sreekanth.

An upgraded general body hall has been set up at the municipal headquarters. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of commissioner G Sreekanth to test demo microphones, speakers and screens in the hall. Microphones placed on each table were checked, and trials were also conducted for live telecast of meetings. Additional commissioner Kalpita Pimple and other officials were present. During the meeting,G Sreekanth reviewed various development works and questioned water supply department executive engineer Kiran Dhandhe about the city’s water situation and the frequency of supply.

Dhandhe informed that areas such as Chikalthana, Chaudhari colony, Hanuman tekdi and Vishwabharati colony are receiving water at delayed intervals of eight to ten days. He added that until 200 MLD of water is received in the first phase of the new water supply scheme, no-network areas will not receive water. The commissioner issued a clear warning that pressure from any corporator, regardless of stature, will not be entertained.

Provide list of water tanks to corporators

Commissioner G Sreekanth instructed that all corporators be provided with details of water tanks in their Prabhags, along with mobile numbers of operators, junior engineers and deputy engineers. Water tank staff should calmly listen to issues raised by corporators and resolve them at their level, ensuring that complaints do not escalate to senior officials.

Meeting with corporators at Jayakwadi

The commissioner also directed officials to prepare a PPT on current water availability, existing water tanks, challenges in supply and details of the new water supply scheme, and present it to corporators. He further instructed that a meeting be organised at Jayakwadi, where work on the new water supply scheme is underway, to explain how water is currently supplied through the old scheme and to provide comprehensive information to corporators.
