Aurangabad, April 30:

Known for its colour, fragrance and taste, the export quality Keshar mango from the Marathwada region will be available to the residents after May 15.

The Keshar mango area in Marathwada region is 20,000 hectares. For branding the Keshar mango, the Mahakeshar Ambda Bagayatdar Sangh was established. The mango producers held two meetings with the exporters but no decision about the exports has been taken yet. The president of the sangh, Sushil Baldava said, the production of mango reduced by 50 percent due unseasonal rains and there is a confusion whether the mangos can be exported due to lockdown and the pandemic crisis. The mango producers will have to face severe losses if the mangos are not exported. However, they are getting good prices in the local market too and hence; the producers will give preference to sell the mangoes in the local markets. The Keshar mango has started coming to the market but the real season will start after May 15, The price of the Keshar mango will be between Rs 150 to Rs 200 per kg and the residents will get the export quality Keshar mango, Baldava said.

Presently, the Keshar mango is being brought from Gujarat and sold as the Keshar mango from Marathwada. But, the season of Keshar starts in May and lasts only for a month, the sources said.
