Markets in the city are witnessing brisk business ahead of Holi, with nearly Rs 60 lakh worth of colours sold before Dhulivandan. Traders estimate that about 90 per cent of the demand is for dry colours, as consumers increasingly opt for herbal and sattvik gulal over chemical-based products.
Uttar Pradesh hues dominate
Saffron, pink, yellow, purple and blue are among the most sought-after shades this season. A large portion of the dry colours has been sourced from Uttar Pradesh, continuing last year’s trend.
Fragrant, skin-friendly colours in demand
Naturally prepared, velvet-textured and mildly fragrant colours have gained popularity, especially among women, due to growing skin-care awareness. These colours are easy to wash off and considered safer.
3,500 colour cylinders sold
‘Colour fog’ cylinders have also seen strong demand, with around 3,500 units sold for public events. Prices range from Rs 700 to Rs 2,500 depending on weight.
