Authorities have ramped up security at Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb in Khuldabad, installing barbed wire on protective walls and metal sheets to prevent unauthorized access.
The move comes after Hindu nationalist groups threatened to uproot the tomb, sparking statewide tensions. A riot in Nagpur on March 17 intensified concerns, prompting officials to fortify the site. To deter trespassers, officials had earlier placed metal sheets behind the tomb near the shrine of Aurangzeb’s guru, Syed Zainuddin Chishti. On Friday, barbed wire fencing was added to these sheets as an additional precaution. Police have also blocked access roads with barricades and implemented strict visitor screenings to prevent potential disturbances. The heightened measures reflect the administration’s serious approach to securing the site.
