Smart Cities Mission: Streets for People Challenge in city on Nov 13

Aurangabad city is participating in the union Government''s ''Streets for People Challenge'' which will be held at Paithan Gate on November 13 from 6 am to 9 am.

The Challenge is an initiative of the Smart Cities Mission. It aims to create flagship walking initiatives in cities, which focus on placemaking and liveability. Cities will be required to reimagine their streets as public spaces through the lens of economic regeneration, safety, and child-friendly interventions initiatives, to ensure a green recovery from Covid-19.

The municipal commissioner of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL) Astik Kumar Pandey has decided to implement the Challenge with the help of Smart City Project and AMC officers.

As a part of the Challenge, the ASDCL had selected three roads on a pilot basis. Of which, Paithan Gate road will be the first to be implemented on Friday.

ASCDCL''s assistant project manager Sneha Mohan Nair said, " The aim of the event is to sensitise people about the challenges before the city. The ground survey of streets in the city has been completed by adopting various parameters. The focus of the pilot project is on providing safe streets for pedestrians, beautification of streets and economic development."

Various programmes scheduled to be held at Paithan Gate include classical singing and open sketching. ASCDCL''a assistant project manager Sneha Bakshi appeals to participate in preparing line drawing of monuments in the city and also present street plays in large numbers.

The musical programme will be participated by Gajanan Keche, Niranjan Bhalerao, Gajan Dhumal, Ganesh Bhutekar, Arvind Kumar and Sandeep Tepale, while the students of Vasantrao Naik Bal Gruh will draw various rangoli designs.
