Police have arrested two accused in a Rs 3 lakh cheating case in which a family was duped with the promise of marriage and a young married woman was abducted. The incident had occurred in the Bajajnagar area, after which the accused went absconding. Acting on confidential information, police detained the duo from the Bidkin area on Monday. According to a complaint lodged on December 1 by farmer Ashok Sudam Bandal of Ratanjan village in Karjat taluka, Ahilyanagar district, the accused conspired to cheat him by offering to arrange a marriage. An acquaintance, Arvind Rathod, sent photographs of a woman, Maya Shinde, and after she was approved, marriage-related documents were prepared through a notary. The complainant was then made to pay Rs 3 lakh. After receiving the money, the accused asked to take the woman along and abducted her using a pre-arranged car. When the house was later found locked and mobile phones switched off, the complainant realised he had been cheated. A case was registered at the Waluj MIDC police station.
Two held
Police inspector Rameshwar Gade received inputs about the accused’s movement and, following technical analysis and a trap, arrested Satish Vinayak Jadhav and Kishor Roopchand Dongre. Further investigation is being carried out by assistant police inspector Arvind Shinde. Police have appealed to citizens to remain alert against marriage-related frauds.
