Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Members of Uddhav Balasaheb Thakeraty (UBT) threw ink on the party’s candidate in Gangapur tehsil of the district on Saturday for the withdrawal of nomination papers.
UBT Sena workers accused the party’s official candidate and former chairman of the Panchayat Samiti, Sunil Kere, of secretly withdrawing his nomination without informing the party, confronted him at Saungi Chowk and protested vehemently by throwing ink on him.
The UBT had given the ticket to Kere from the Shillegaon gat of ZP. However, he withdrew his nomination papers without giving any prior notice to party officials, local leaders, or the senior leadership on the last day for withdrawal of nominations. This decision knocked the Uddhav Sena out of the election race in this constituency.
Furious workers alleged that the party had suffered a major embarrassment due to the candidate's withdrawal right before the elections.
Since withdrawing his nomination, Kere was 'not reachable'. His mobile phones were switched off, and Shiv Sena workers were searching for him.
As soon as Kere was spotted at Sauangi Chowk around 1.30 PM today, the party’s election observers Rajendra Danve and Nandu Labde, along with other workers, confronted him and questioned him about the withdrawal. While Kere was responding, the agitated workers became aggressive and poured ink on him.
