Uproar in Local Crime Branch over harassment allegations; woman constable attempts suicide

A woman head constable of the Rural Local Crime Branch allegedly attempted suicide after accusing a senior officer of harassment, causing unrest within the department. She posted a suicide note on WhatsApp on Monday morning and went missing, prompting a search by police and her family. She was later found safe in Khultabad.

Appointed a few months ago and given an independent beat, her duties were reportedly changed repeatedly by the senior officer. When she sought clarification, she was allegedly humiliated and spoken to inappropriately, leading to mental distress. In her status message, she blamed harassment and misuse of authority for pushing her towards the extreme step. Sources said she had earlier approached Cidco police station to file a molestation complaint against the same officer but withdrew it after intervention by senior officials. The episode has exposed internal dissatisfaction within the branch, with allegations that a few personnel dominate functioning under the officer. Superintendent of Police Dr Vinaykumar Rathod said the matter is being taken seriously, the constable has been counselled, and a thorough inquiry will be conducted.
