Aurangabad, July 4:

Former editor of Lokmat Subhashchandra Wagholikar (71, Vishwabharati Colony) died of cardiac arrest in the wee hours of Sunday.

He leaves behind his wife Sunita (retired college teacher) and two daughters-Pallavi and adv Sumedha, sons-in-law.

Last rites were performed on him at Pratapnagar crematorium today. Subhashchandra Wagholikar was admitted to CIIGMA Hospital eight days ago after he complained of uneasiness.

His health was recovering. He died after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Wagholikar, who hailed from Nashik, made Marathwada his ‘Karmabhumi.’ He was born on June 13, 1950, and completed his education in Nashik.

He had a command of Marathi, Hindi and English languages and started his career from Gaonkari newspaper of Nashik. He arrived in Aurangabad in the 1970s and joined daily ‘Marathwada.’

He was in Bihar in 1977 for two and half months to cover Assembly elections. His coverage had become a talk of the town.

After leaving Marathwada daily, he worked as a freelance journalist for some time. Later, he joined Lokmat Group of Newspaper as Solapur edition news editor. He worked in Mumbai edition also.

He retired in Aurangabad as editor of Lokmat in 2011. Even after retirement, he contributed through his writing. He was studious and had good knowledge of politics and social issues, incredible observation skills.

The veteran journalist also participated in agitations for social causes. His column ‘Desh Kaal’ published in Lokmat, was very popular among readers.

Wagholikar, who never compromised with his principles, was committed to socialist thoughts until his last breath.
