Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Shares to Remain In Focus Today After Donald Trump Announces ₹2.49 Lakh Crore Texas Oil Refinery with RIL
Shares of Reliance Industries (RIL) are expected to remain in focus today after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the company will partner in a ₹2.49 lakh crore mega oil refinery project in Texas. The project, described by Trump as “historic,” will be developed at the Port of Brownsville by America First Refining, and is set to be the first new oil refinery in the U.S. in nearly 50 years. The announcement highlights Reliance’s growing international footprint in the energy sector and could have significant implications for its market performance. U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that India’s Reliance Industries will be partnering in a proposed mega oil refinery project in Texas. Trump described the project as “historic” for the American energy sector and said it marks a significant step toward strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure. He shared this update on his social media platform, Truth Social.
“This is a $30 billion historic deal, the largest transaction in American history. It is a major victory for American workers, the energy industry, and the people of South Texas,” Trump said.According to the President, the refinery will be developed at the Port of Brownsville in Texas by a company named America First Refining. It will be the first new oil refinery built in the U.S. in nearly 50 years. The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening the nation’s energy infrastructure and domestic refining capacity. However, detailed information about the project’s financial structure or funding has not yet been made public.
Acknowledging Reliance and Indian Partners
In his post, Trump made a special mention of India’s largest private energy company, Reliance Industries, and expressed gratitude to the Indian partners. Speaking about the company led by Mukesh Ambani, he said, “Thanks to our partners in India and their largest private energy company, Reliance, for this monumental investment.”
Investment and Benefits Under ‘America First’ Policy
Trump stated that his ‘America First’ policy, which simplified licensing processes and cut taxes, has attracted large-scale investments to the country. He said the refinery at Brownsville will increase fuel availability for the American market, strengthen national security, boost energy production, and create thousands of new jobs. The project is also aimed at becoming the cleanest refinery in the world.
Announcement Comes Amid Tensions and Oil Price Concerns
This announcement comes at a time of rising concerns over oil prices due to regional tensions with Iran and potential disruptions in global supply. The U.S. administration is reportedly considering options such as releasing oil from strategic petroleum reserves and providing military protection for tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz to stabilize energy markets.
Project Background and Challenges
Energy experts suggest that this project may be linked to a previously proposed refinery project by Element Fuels. In June 2024, the company had stated that it had completed site preparation and obtained the necessary permits to build a refinery with a daily capacity of approximately 160,000 barrels. Although no official statement has yet come from Reliance Industries or America First Refining regarding this new proposal, the refining sector faces several challenges. Despite the U.S. oil production boom due to the shale revolution, refining capacity has not kept pace. Establishing a new refinery is considered challenging due to high investment costs, complex permitting processes, and environmental opposition.
