Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE to Remain Closed on March 26 for Ram Navami; Trading to Resume on March 27

Amid ongoing fluctuations in the stock market, investors will get a brief break as Indian stock exchanges will remain closed on Thursday, March 26, 2026, on the occasion of Ram Navami. According to the holiday calendar of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), there will be no trading in the equity, derivatives, and currency segments on this day. Trading activities will resume on Friday, March 27.

For investors, an additional point to note is that markets will effectively have an extended break. After the holiday on March 26, the weekend follows with Saturday (March 28) and Sunday (March 29), when markets are closed as usual. This means trading will take place only on Friday before the markets pause again for the weekend.

However, the commodity market will operate partially. In the commodity derivatives segment on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), the morning trading session will remain closed, but the evening session will resume as scheduled.

Another Holiday on March 31

This will not be the last trading holiday in March. The stock market will also remain closed on March 31, 2026, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. As a result, investors will see another one-day trading break toward the end of the month.

Looking at the entire year, the NSE holiday calendar shows that markets will remain closed for a total of 16 days in 2026. These include major national and religious holidays such as Republic Day (India), Holi, Good Friday, Dussehra, and Diwali.

Impact on the Banking Sector

Due to Ram Navami, banks in several cities across India will also remain closed on March 26. In some states, banks may remain closed on March 27 as well. However, digital banking services, including online transactions and mobile banking, will continue to function normally.
