Former Englad opener Luke Wright has signed a contract extension with the club, a deal that'll see the England international remain at Hove until the 2023 season. The 35-year-old, who has remained with the club for 16 years now, will play only the white-ball formats. The new contract follows another prolific season for Wright in the T20 Blast this year. His tally of 411 runs from 11 innings at 137 SR was bettered only by Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond and Middlesex's Stevie Eskinazi. Under Wright's captaincy, Sussex made a third quarterfinal in as many years.

"I'm very happy to have signed an extension to my contract," Wright said. "I believe I have a very important role at the club both as a player and in helping the next generation of players come through. 2020 has been a very challenging year for the club, and I sincerely hope to help get Sussex back to competing in all forms. This club is very special to me and my family. "Since making his debut in 2003, Wright has scored a total of 7998 Blast runs in addition to 5126 List A runs and is a bonafide legend at the club. ""It's great that Luke has committed himself long term to Sussex Cricket," said Performance director, Keith Greenfield. "Luke is an outstanding batsman in one-day cricket and his experience and skill means he continues to go from strength to strength as a player. He is a valuable and important person within our club and his leadership to turn us into a winning team will be essential in the coming months and years."
