Earlier, Gavaskar's teammate Kapil Dev had slammed Shoaib Akhtar's idea of a made-for-television three-match ODI series between India and Pakistan to raise funds for the Covid-19 pandemic, saying 'India doesn't need the money' and it is not worth risking lives for a cricket match.

Notably, Shoaib Akhtar said the viewership for the proposed ODI series will be massive and fans from both the countries will be happy to see a rare bilateral assignment between the two teams.

Akhtar even proposed that the funds can be divided between the India and Pakistani governments in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
