Nandini Shrikent Hails Vijay Varma as Casting Gold: 'He Hit It Out of the Park' in Gully Boy

Vijay Varma has that rare spark that is intense, layered roles, that grab you and don't let go. He's the most exciting actor of his generation, and casting director Nandini Shrikent agrees. She recently showered praise on the actor during an interview, spotlighting his transformative audition for Gully Boy (2019), where she handpicked him for the role of Moeen Bhai.

She recalled the process vividly and said, "In Gully Boy, we had to audition for this role and I called in good actors because it was a good film, good director, good role… and one of them hit it out of the park and then hit it out of the park in the movie. His name is Vijay Varma." She marveled at his debut film and FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) roots and shared, “Vijay’s first film (Shor) went to Cannes and he's from FTII and he'd already done a few films that were interesting.”

She added saying, "He happened at the right place, right time, right script, right character, right director, right film. Everything just worked.” Indeed, Gully Boy marked Vijay's explosive breakthrough, catapulting him into the spotlight. His raw intensity as Moeen in the film, showcased the depth that defines him, from Darlings to Dahaad and Jaane Jaan.
