Andhra Pradesh's tally of positive cases touched 2,561 with 47 new cases detected in the past 24 hours ending 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Even as the state's tally of positive cases has been inching upwards, the number of active cases has been slowly coming down, with 727 persons receiving treatment in various hospitals.

The state nodal officer reported that 9,136 samples were tested during the past 24 hours as against 8,415 samples that were tested during the preceding testing cycle.

One more death, the second in two days, was reported from Krishna district, taking the death toll in the state to 56 on Saturday morning. As many as 47 persons were cured and discharged by Saturday morning, taking the state's tally of cured persons to 1,778.

On Saturday, fewer positive cases were attributed to people with a travel history to the Koyambedu market in Chennai. While Chittoor district reported 3 cases, Nellore reported 2 cases with travel histories to the Koyambedu market which has since been closed. Andhra Pradesh has been aggressive in conducting COVID-19 tests.

As on May 23, the state has tested 2,92,969 samples, ranking behind Maharashtra's 3,32,777, and Tamil Nadu's 3,84,682. The Andhra Pradesh average of 5,486 tests conducted per million population, ranks below Delhi's 8,218, and Jammu & Kashmir's 8,508.

A total of 2,834,798 tests have been conducted across India, with an average of 2044 tests conducted per million population.

Meanwhile, the cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases among returnees from other states remained static at 153. However, the active cases tally stands at 128 as 25 persons in this category have been discharged.
