Gandhinagar, Oct 17 Gujarat on Saturday recorded 1,161 new Covid-19 cases taking the overall tally to 1,58,635 while the death toll jumped to 3,629 with nine more people succumbing to the virus, health officials said.

Surat reported 239 fresh infections followed by Ahmedabad 183, Vadodara 116, Rajkot 108, Jamnagar 74, Junagadh and Mahesana with 41 each, Gandhinagar 39, Patan 33, Bharuch 27, Sabarkantha 24, Morbi 21, Amreli and Surendranagar with 20 each, Gir-Somnath 18, Banaskantha and Kheda with 17 each, Narmada and Panchmahals with 16 each, Kutch 15, Dahod and Mahisagar with 12 each, Anand 8, Devbhumi Dwarka and Porbandar with 6 each, Chotta Udepur 5, Aravalli and Navsari with 3 each, Botad 2 and Valsad with one positive case.

The state recorded nine new fatalities, as three died in Rajkot, two each died in Ahmedabad and Surat while one each died in Vadodara and Gir-Somnath.

The overall Covid deaths in Ahmedabad have reached 1,868. 823 in Surat, Vadodara 203, Rajkot 155, Gandhinagar 85, Jamnagar 34, Banaskantha 27, Amreli 26 and 23 deaths in Gir-Somnath.

Gujarat's mortality rate is gradually coming down and is under 2.5 with around 2.28 per cent.

Till now the health authorities have conducted 53,22,288 RT-PCR tests in Gujarat. A total of 1,270 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total recoveries in the state to 1,40,419.
