Ayatollah Khamenei Assassination Sparks Deadly Violence in Pakistan; 9 Killed in Karachi Protests
At least eight people lost their lives on Sunday during violent confrontations between security forces and demonstrators outside the United States Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest port city.
The unrest broke out after reports of joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran that allegedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The developments sparked outrage, drawing hundreds of protesters to the diplomatic mission.
According to police, demonstrators attempted to force their way into the consulate premises, vandalising property and smashing windows. Security personnel responded, leading to clashes that left multiple people injured in addition to the fatalities.
Hospital officials confirmed receiving several wounded individuals following the incident. Authorities later dispersed the crowd, and police said the situation has since been brought under control. Security remains heightened in the area as officials monitor for further unrest.
