Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called for a global crackdown on Chinese wild animal markets which are believed to be the source of the coronavirus pandemic. There has been widespread speculation that the virus originated from the Wuhan wet market from animal to human. Mr Morrison said the markets were a real and significant problem. In an interview to a news channel on April 2, said "this virus started in China and went round the world. And that's that's how it started." He also stated that these markets pose great risk to the health and well -being of the humanity.
Continuing further he said, "We all know that and these wet markets can be a real problem when it comes to what can occur in those markets. And I think from a world health point of view, this is something the World Health Organisation should do something about. I mean, all this money that comes out of the UN and the World Health Organisation," Morrison said. As of April 2, a total of 81,620 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported on the Chinese mainland, and 3,322 people had died of the disease. The Prime Minister also urged citizens of his country to maintain social distancing in order to curb the spread of the virus as he could forsee a great medical emergency in the country if lockdown is not followed judiciously. In Australia the number of infected persons has crossed 5,000.
