Earthquake in US: Multiple Quakes Hit Nevada, Strongest at 5.7 Magnitude Near Silver Springs
An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck near Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday, April 13. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck at around 6.30 pm, sending tremors across the region.
There are no immediate reports of damage. Authorities said the tremor occurred at a shallow depth, which often increases the likelihood that it will be felt in nearby areas.
The first major earthquake struck at around 6.29 pm on Monday at 17.1 miles south-west of Fallon. The quake shook northwest Nevada, including Reno, according to the initial report from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada.
There were multiple aftershocks reported in the area near the first earthquake, with magnitudes between 2.6 and 3.7.
