Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day Hindu festival, celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of auspicious beginnings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The festival is believed to remove all obstacles from human life and bring peace and prosperity.

It is important to do pooja in right way with right ingredients. It is believed that there are 5 that are considered to be most important to include in Ganesha Puja. Without these 5 items Ganesh puja is incomplete.

This year, Ganesha Chaturthi will begin on August 22 and end on September 1.

Here is the list of items needed for the Puja:Modak: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are incomplete without Lord Ganpati’s favourite sweetmeat, the modak. Modaks are a special treat to the elephant-headed God and his devotees.Durva Grass is a three-bladed plant known to attract immense energy of Ganpati.Bananas: Lord Ganesha is a fond of all fruits especially bananas; so when you are doing Puja always offer bananas in front of his idol while worshipping.Conch Shell (Shankh): In each portrait of Lord Ganesha; we usually notice that one of his arms holds conch-shell, i.e Shankh. Conch shell plays a very essential role in Hindu culture as it generates the holiest sound. Sindoor (Red Vermillion): Just like Lord Hanumana, elephant-headed God-Ganesha is revered with red vermillion during puja in festivals. He loves to get adorned with sindoor, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi.
