Gudi Padwa 2026 Special: Why Shrikhanda Puri is Offered as Nevidya? Know Its Health Benefits
Shrikhanda Puri is made in many homes during Gudi Padwa. Padwa is celebrated Chaitra Shuddha Pratipada is the first day of spring. On this day, Gudi is built and worshipped using natural and health-promoting things like bamboo, silk cloth, copper, mango twigs, neem leaves, sugar garlands, etc. Neem chutney is eaten or in some places the leaves are also eaten. On the day of Gudi Padwa, the new year begins, which is why the diet includes all the flavors from sweet to bitter. And the most important thing in it is Shrikhand!
Shrikhand Puri is always offered as a Naivedya for Gudi. In Ayurveda, Shrikhand is called Rasala. There is a legend that during the Mahabharata, when Bhima was cooking under the name of Ballav, he made this dish. Due to the consumption of this dish, Shri Krishna fell asleep. This disrupted Shri's daily routine, so it is called Shrikhand. Of course, while telling this legend, we will see the importance of Shrikhand in the diet today.
Why should we eat Shrikhand on Gudi Padwa?
1. While resisting the heat of summer, fatigue can occur, Shrikhand works like a chemical to maintain energy and strength in the body.
2. Shrikhand is good for those who do not feel enthusiastic due to summer and want strength.
3. Shrikhand is a little hard to digest, because it is fermented; many people avoid eating it, but at home, mix good curd and tie it in a cotton cloth for eight to ten hours and grind it when the water in it is gone. Shrikhand made by mixing saffron, rock sugar, a little milk, cinnamon and a little ginger powder in that grind is not effective as a cough suppressant.
4. Therefore, this festival of the beginning of summer is celebrated by eating Shrikhand.
