Muslim communities all over the world are eagerly waiting and searching for the crescent moon of Ramadan 2025, which is the most holy month in Islam and an auspicious time of the year. Ramzan marks the beginning of the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the start of the holy month in which the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam (PBUH).
In Ramadan, Muslims fast between dawn and sunset for 29 to 30 days, depending on the moon sighting. The crescent moon sighting on Friday, February 28, will decide the exact date of the first day of fasting in Saudi Arabia (KSA), UAE, other Gulf and western countries. If the crescent moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia today, then the first day of Ramadan 2025 will on Saturday, March 1, 2025, if not then, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will search for the crescent on March 1, 2025 and the first day of fasting will be on March 2, 2025. Usually, moon sighting in Saudi Arabia takes place a day before it happens in India. Similarly, onset of Ramadan and Eid follows the parallel schedule.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia and various other committees, including in India, asked its citizens to search for the crescent moon on February 28, 2025, for Ramzan 2025. If the crescent moon is visible after the evening prayer (Maghrib), Taraweeh prayers will begin that night, marking the start of Ramadan.
