Caste System Holding Maharashtra Back: Dr. Sadanand More Makes Bold Claim At MNS Event
Raj Thackeray paid tribute to legendary writer and saint literary expert Dr. Sadanand More at a function hosted by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Pimpri. Dr. Sadanand More, a professor, then gave a speech titled "Maharashtra: Past, Present, and Future." Speaking at the event, Dr. More opined that Maharashtra could not lead in India due to casteism.
Historian Jadunath Sarkar made a prediction decades ago and said that the Marathas would become the world's most popular team over the next century. The reason behind this not happening in India is that casteism prevented Maharashtra from taking the lead in the nation. Together, all the castes have won successes throughout history. However, like in the later Peshwa period, the state fell when caste unity was lost. We cannot advance internationally until ideology becomes our identity. The "Maharashtra Dharma," which binds all people together, is the philosophy we must adopt. Dr. Sadanand More, the former president of the Akhil Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, voiced this viewpoint.
Dr. Sadanand More said, "Today, I will speak about Maharashtra—its past, present, and future. My connection with Maharashtra began in childhood, and I have been studying it since then. I have been associated with personalities like Acharya Atre and various organizations, but I have remained detached from politics."
"I have heard that Nashik is one of Raj Thackeray's favorite places. Nashik has a deep connection with the Ramayana. This is where Bharat met Lord Rama. Many people do not know that Bharat performed Rama’s first coronation in Nashik before the one in Ayodhya. British officer Hunter once suggested that instead of Delhi, Nashik should have been the capital of India," he added.
Dr. More added that historical research on Maharashtra started while the country was ruled by the British. The name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was mentioned several times in the book about Aurangzeb, written by historian Jadunath Sarkar.
Maharashtra encompasses all communities, including Dalits and Marathas. Maharashtra has always had a broad viewpoint. We frequently remember the statement made by Yashwantrao Chavan: "The Sahyadri mountains came to the aid of the Himalayas." Maharashtra was a major player in a number of these historical events.
