ICMR allows Maha govt to try out plasma therapy on COVID-19 patients
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday has given permission to Maharashtra government to try out plasma therapy on COVID-19 patients in Mumbai, said Health Minister Rajesh Tope.
Plasma therapy involves, the antibodies of a person who has recovered from the virus are taken and transfused into a sick person (having the virus) to help boost the person's immune system.
Maharashtra has the highest number of COVID-19 cases. It is the worst-hit state in the country in terms of the number of people infected from coronavirus. The state has reported 431 new cases in last 24 hours. The total tally in Maharashtra now stands at 5652.
