A cyber fraud has came to light where a  fraudster financially cheated a citizen by hacking his mobile phone and conducting online transactions totaling a staggering ₹6,77,500 across two different bank accounts and via credit cards. Surprisingly the complainant did not receive a single OTP (One-Time Password) message on his mobile phone, nor did he open any suspicious links; this has once again raised serious questions regarding the efficacy of cyber security measures. A case has been registered at the MIDC Waluj Police Station based on a complaint filed by Nitin Dattatray Pawar.

According to the information provided by the police, On May 9th, between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM, cybercriminals hacked the complainant's mobile phone and used his SBI savings account and SBI and ICICI Bank credit card details to make unauthorized transactions. They fraudulently diverted ₹1,05,000 via the credit card in two transactions and ₹77,500 from the savings account, totaling ₹6,77,500.

What's shocking is that the victim wasn't on a call, didn't receive an OTP, or click suspicious links when the transactions occurred, suggesting the accused used sophisticated hacking techniques. Police urge vigilance with bank details, OTPs, app permissions, and immediate reporting of suspicious transactions to banks and the cyber helpline. A case has been registered at MIDC Waluj Police Station, and investigation is ongoing under Senior Police Inspector Rameshwar Gade.
