Maharashtra School Summer Vacation 2026 Date: Primary and Secondary Sections to Announce Holidays From May 2

Primary, secondary and higher secondary schools affiliated with the State Board will begin summer vacations from May 2 this year. Classes for the 2026–27 academic session will commence from June 15, as per orders issued by the Directorate of Education. With this decision, schools across the state, including Vidarbha, will reopen on the same day for the first time.

A circular in this regard has been issued by Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi and Director of Secondary Education Dr Mahesh Palkar to divisional deputy directors, Zilla Parishad education officers and education inspectors. The decision has been taken to maintain uniformity in the vacation period across the state.

According to the instructions, the vacation will apply to students in all State Board schools from May 2. However, schools affiliated with other education boards may take their own decision regarding vacations if pre-scheduled academic activities are ongoing.

Although the new academic year will begin on June 15, special timings have been introduced for Vidarbha due to the heat. Schools in the region will operate from 7 am to 11:45 am between June 15 and June 29. Regular timings will resume from June 30.

Earlier, due to intense heat, schools in Vidarbha used to reopen eight to ten days later than in other parts of the state. This year, the education department has implemented a uniform reopening schedule, with a temporary morning shift in Vidarbha to ensure students’ health and safety.
