Maharashtra Transport Strike Called Off; Solution Will Be Found Soon, Says Pratap Sarnaik
Mumbai - State wide protest was announced Maharashtra transport action committee (M-TAC) from midnight on March 5, 2026. The strike was to provide a solution to the e-challan system, which according to the transporters, is being misused and leading to unfair penalties. In recent update, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed that the government will take a positive stand on the cancellation of unfair e-challans and that a joint meeting of the police and transport departments will be called soon to find a solution to the various problems of transporters, and that various transporter organizations in the state have decided to withdraw the state-wide strike called by them, informed the Minister.
Minister Sarnaik said that discussions were held with the Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis, regarding the state-wide strike of transporters. Also, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde interacted with the members of the Maharashtra Transport Action Committee, the apex committee of transporter organizations, through a video conference system.
He appealed to the government to consider their demands sympathetically and withdraw the strike. Responding to that appeal, the transporters have withdrawn the strike. Minister Sarnaik also clarified that the government is sensitive to the various demands of the transporters. The government will take a positive decision regarding the unfairly issued e-challans. He also said that a joint meeting of the Transport Department, Police Administration and representatives of transporter associations will be organized to discuss the related issues. Minister Sarnaik also mentioned that after this assurance, the transporters have decided to suspend the agitation.
