The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast light rainfall and thundershowers in Thane on May 17 and 18, offering residents some respite from the prevailing hot and humid weather. While neighbouring areas may witness showers, conditions in Mumbai are expected to remain largely dry, with bright sunshine continuing through the weekend. Temperatures in the city are likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius, maintaining uncomfortable daytime conditions. Weather officials said humidity levels are also expected to remain high, causing warm and sticky conditions across Mumbai and nearby suburbs despite the possibility of isolated cloud cover during the evening hours.
According to the RMC forecast, Mumbai and its suburban regions are expected to experience partly cloudy skies over the next 48 hours. The minimum temperature is likely to remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may touch 35 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, several districts across Maharashtra, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Jalna, Beed and Nanded, are also expected to receive rainfall activity on May 18, accompanied by cloudy weather in isolated pockets.
The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for Latur and Dharashiv districts. Officials have warned of thunderstorms with lightning, moderate rain, and gusty winds reaching speeds between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour at isolated locations. Despite rainfall predictions in some parts of the state, heatwave-like conditions are expected to continue in several regions. Districts such as Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Wardha are likely to experience intense heatwave conditions on May 18.
