Nashik–Mumbai Farmers’ March: State Govt Accepts Demands, Girish Mahajan to Hold Talks With Kisan Morcha Protesters
Against the backdrop of the long march of tribal farmers from Nashik to Mumbai, a delegation of the All India Kisan Sabha held detailed discussions with the Maharashtra government at Mantralaya. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Tribal Development Minister Ashok Uike, School Education Minister Dadasaheb Bhuse, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, along with the Chief Secretary and senior officials, were present at the meeting.
The two-hour-long discussion focused on issues related to the Forest Rights Act, water management, employment, electricity, education, and concerns of farmers and the tribal community. During the meeting, the delegation presented a detailed account of the injustice faced by farmers and tribals. After the Mantralaya meeting, the delegation met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Varsha. The Chief Minister assured that all accepted demands would be implemented and said there would be continuous ministerial-level follow-up to ensure proper execution without errors.

It was decided that Minister Girish Mahajan would hold discussions with the agitators, after which the future course of the agitation would be determined. During the meeting, the government agreed to re-examine all claims filed under the Forest Rights Act on a district-wise basis. To address the injustice caused to thousands of farmers due to incorrect assessments by the Forest Department, committees will be formed under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner, and investigations will be completed within three months.

Approval was also given for forest landholders to conduct crop inspections and avail the benefits of government schemes. Decisions were taken on the purchase of tribal produce and paddy at fair prices with bonuses, regularisation of temple and Varkas lands, diversion of western river water to local and drought-prone areas, recruitment under PESA, daytime electricity supply for farmers, improved school nutrition, and strengthening educational facilities in tribal regions.
The Kisan Sabha said 90% of its demands have been accepted. However, it warned that the agitation would resume if results are not visible within three months. The final decision on calling off the protest will be taken after Minister Girish Mahajan meets the protesters, accepts their applications, and provides satisfactory assurances. Former MLA J.P. Gavit also warned that if action is not taken within three months, another agitation will be launched.
