As vehicles stop at the signal, drivers can see countdown timers displayed in Devanagari script, along with "Stop - थांबा" and "Go - जा" instructions in Marathi. The initiative has become a point of interest among motorists. The Panvel Municipal Corporation has introduced a Marathi-language signaling system at Panchmukhi Chowk on the Sion-Panvel Highway.

According to Pritam Patil, an engineer from the corporation’s electrical department, the project is currently being implemented on a trial basis. The move has received widespread appreciation for promoting the Marathi language, which has been granted classical status.
Marathi is also the official language of Maharashtra, and under the Maharashtra Official Language Act of 1964, all government work must be conducted in Marathi.
