Petrol Pumps in Kolhapur to Remain Shut Between 9 pm and 6 am; Rationing and Bulk Sale Ban Enforced

Amid a surge in panic buying, petrol pump operators in Kolhapur have decided to suspend fuel sales between 9 pm and 6 am to manage uncontrollable crowds and rising demand. The move comes even as rationing limits remain in place, restricting fuel purchases to Rs 200 for two-wheelers and Rs 2,000 for cars and three-wheelers.

Despite these restrictions, several fuel stations across the city remained shut on Friday, while those that were open witnessed long queues from early morning. Although waiting times have slightly improved compared to the previous days, motorists are still spending 30 to 60 minutes in line to refuel.

Petrol pump operators say they are also facing financial pressure due to changes in credit terms from oil companies. According to one operator, fuel dealers are now required to make advance payments running into several lakhs to secure a single tanker load. Previously, oil companies supplied tankers with at least a one-day credit facility, which has now reportedly been discontinued.

Meanwhile, Amol Yedge, the district collector of Kolhapur, has issued an order prohibiting the bulk sale of fuel in containers, cans and bottles. The directive is being strictly enforced at petrol pumps across the district. Officials said the ban on bulk purchases has slightly reduced waiting times and helped ease pressure at fuel stations.
