Sangli Accident: Couple Dies After Car Rams Into Parked Tractor-Trolley on Miraj–Pandharpur Highway

Maharashtra: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning at Shirdhon on the Miraj–Pandharpur National Highway were a car rammed into the rear of a tractor-trolley that was parked along the roadside. In this accident, a married couple from Kasba Bawada in Kolhapur district died on the spot. Deceased have been identified as Santosh Gaikwad and Adv. Vandana Gaikwad.

The accident took place while they were traveling from Kolhapur towards Pandharpur. This incident has caused a great stir in the area, and expressions of grief and sorrow are pouring in. According to information received from the Highway Police, the accident occurred around 7:15 AM within the limits of Shirdhon village, right in front of the 'Mahadev Restaurant.' Santosh Gaikwad was traveling with his wife in a car (MH 09 FJ 2815) from Miraj towards Pandharpur.  

Near Shirdhon village around 7:15 AM, Santosh Gaikwad and Adv. Vandana Gaikwad died when their car rear-ended a parked tractor-trolley near Mahadev Restaurant. The car's front end was completely destroyed. Highway Police Sub-Inspectors Anil Sawale and Arun Patil, along with officers Mahesh Paute and Shrikant Thorat, responded to the scene and, with assistance from locals, initiated rescue operations.

The tractor driver fled and is being sought by police. The accident caused a brief traffic disruption, which police quickly managed. Cranes from the National Highway Authority moved the vehicles to the roadside. The bodies were transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Kavathe Mahankal, where a case has been registered and investigations are underway. The Gaikwads were traveling from Miraj to Pandharpur.
