The results for the Secondary School Certificate (Class 10) exams were declared by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) on Wednesday.The overall pass percentage of fresh candidates who appeared for the March 2020 examinations was recorded at 95.30 per cent.
Asma Salim Shaikh who lives on the street in Mumbai has scored 40% in her Class 10 exams. Asma daughter of an Azad Maidan juice seller, studied under the streetlights.
She along with her family stays on the street adjoining Azad Nagar police station. Shaikh is very ecstatic after passing the board exams. Asma Sheikh said, "I am working hard in my life to get education." She has used street lights to study. She mostly use to study during the night as the crowd was less compared to day time. During rainy season she faced many difficulties and couldn't study but her father bought a plastic sheet to cover the place where they live which helped her immensely.
Asma's father said, "I am very happy. I wish she can see a better world than me. I have spent my life on the footpath I want my children to have a better life."
“I want to study arts. It doesn’t matter which college I get into,” said Asma, who is the first matriculate in her family.
Former Union minister Milind Deora on Twitter announced to help Asma who is from Dongri’s Hirjeebhoy Allarakhia & Laljeebhoy Sajan Girls High School with her college admissions.
