Virar Crime: Illegal Sperm Storage Center Busted; Two Booked

Virar: Health department of Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation discovered that an agency was illegally storing and trading in sperm donated by donors, despite lacking the requisite educational qualifications for any registered medical practice. Following the burst the case has been registered against the two individuals in connection with this matter.

Medical Health Department had received information regarding the illegal sale of sperm being conducted at the 'Jivdani Scientific Company,' located in Padmibai Tower, Virar. Acting on this information and under the guidance of Commissioner Manojkumar Suryavanshi, Health Officer Dr. Bhakti Chaudhary formed a medical team and issued orders to conduct an inspection of the premises.

On March 9, when the Medical Health Department team visited the Jivdani Scientific Company for an inspection, it was revealed that the company and the agency operating within it was owned by Mayur Bhagwat Sankhe and Kamlesh Shankar Khut.

Lack of Authorization

It was discovered that the agency was illegally storing and trading in sperm because the storage facility was not registered as an 'ART Bank' under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. Furthermore, it was noted that in violation of the law the individuals running the agency did not possess the necessary educational qualifications required for any registered medical practice.
