CNG Price Hike in Mumbai: MGL Increases Rates by Rs 2 Per Kg in MMR Amid Rising Global Energy Costs
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the price of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) by Rs 2 per kg in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The revised rates came into effect from midnight of Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Following the hike, the price of CNG in Mumbai and nearby suburbs has risen to Rs 84 per kg. The company said the increase was necessary due to rising gas procurement costs caused by geopolitical tensions in West Asia and volatility in the global energy market.
In a statement, MGL said, “Geopolitical tensions have disrupted the global energy supply chain. In addition, increasing dependence on expensive gas sources, rising crude oil prices and the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar have significantly increased the cost of gas procurement. Therefore, a price revision has become necessary.”
Global Energy Prices Rise Amid West Asia Tensions
The ongoing conflict i.nvolving Iran and the resulting tensions in West Asia have led to a sharp rise in fuel prices globally, which is now affecting consumers in Mumbai as well.
